With all of the turmoil facing our immigrant community today, the Hispanic Bar Association of St. Louis encourages its members to volunteer their time and expertise to help those in need. The M.I.C.A. Project is working with the Catholic Legal Assistance Ministry and Missouri Immigrant Refugee Advocates to host Power of Attorney workshops and Know Your Rights presentations over the next couple of months.

The next Power of Attorney workshop is scheduled for Sunday, April 2, 2017, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the St. Charles Borromeo. These workshops help undocumented families prepare for an emergency in case a parent or family member is picked up by the police, detained, or put into deportation (removal) proceedings. While the hope is that the Powers of Attorney are never needed, it is one small way families can gain peace of mind knowing that they’ve done something to prepare themselves and protect their families.

Many volunteers are needed – including attorneys (especially Spanish-speaking/bi-lingual), interpreters, notaries, as well as non-attorney volunteers.
